Weekend Training Offers
A keen endurance athlete himself, Nicholas Lalor enjoys the tough, beautiful and quite environment of the Slive Bloom Mountains. The Mountains offer the most difficult of bike rides, long distance runs and mountain biking terrain needed for Triathletes, long distance runners or mountain bikers. The mountains are also ideal for walkers and through the local tourist office and information centre there are many treks and walks suitable for those who enjoy a mountain stroll to those who enjoy hardcore mountain hikes and everything in between.
“It’s great that you can run for three or four hours and meet maybe two cars and yet not be totally isolated. It’s the same when you’re going out for a long ride, you’re not cycling along waiting for a truck to tare past or constantly worrying about what is going to fly past your handlebars next, you can just get on with the job at hand. The air is fresh, the climbs are demanding and the surface is fine so it ticks a lot of boxes. I know when the lads and I come down form Dublin we love the peace and quite and the novelty of being able to have a chat while cycling when we are not giving it some welly”

The Therapy Weekend is a Friday night to Sunday package. Based at High Pine Farm at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains you can begin your climb either on foot or bike within as little as 1.5 miles, or just over 2 miles, depending on your route. The wonderful scenery and challenging climbs will help you switch off and concentrate on your training. Over the course of the weekend you can have three physiotherapy sessions depending on your needs i.e. treatment for a specific condition, massage or assessment. Nicholas Lalor will carryout these sessions. Deciding on when to have your sessions can be difficult so perhaps discussion with Nicholas will help you decide. Early morning sessions, as early as 5 am, have been arranged for the more hardcore athlete who intends to spend the entire day training in the mountain. And when the well is empty in the afternoon, or late night, a post event type massage can be slotted in thus leaving you with one more session to have on Sunday.
Weekend accommodation is the Failte Ireland approved High Pine Farm, located just outside Kinnitty Village about two hours from Dublin. The farm house has been catering for guests since 1990 when a Welsh Cycling Team were the first guests. Throughout the nineties the farm house was a refuge for hill walkers and today the nearby Kinnitty Castle is the areas main attraction.
“It’s a well good deal I think, you get up have your breakfast train for six hours come back get a shower and then get a Physiotherapy session. Then on Saturday night you can stay in and chill or go out. Sunday you get some more physiotherapy and train again. You can do as much or as little as you like. The fact that Nicholas worked at the WA Ironman 2007, and has done a good few tris himself also helps. If you factor in what each component of the weekend would cost on its own then its really good value”
